The Frontier
Goal
When creating works of art, some times it is better to do something physical, scan it into the computer, and then edit it digitally. That was the objective when doing this piece, creating an image using a combination of physical elements and digital manipulation.
Process/Learning
There were two elements to really make this piece work. The texture that was used to create the stars in the background and the eco print, made from boiling paper in water with a rusted object to implant the image, which made the natural elements of the galaxies. Combining these together gave the foundation for the piece overall.
The learning process for this was brought about through the creation of said physical elements, especially the eco print, and tweaking the combined image through filters and manipulation in Photoshop until I achieved the desired result.
Conclusion
This image could hang on someone’s wall. Not only are the colors of the galaxies well shown against the black background, but the fact that this isn’t completely digitally made can be a reason why someone has this in their home. When I had made this, it was some of the best results that I could have hoped for.
