David Bowie Tribute Poster

Goal

Developing other artistic skills is just what artists are known for. I’m no different. With this piece, I was creating a poster for a fictional David Bowie tribute concert. I wanted to apply my learning from my Poster Design class when making this piece, using what I learned to push how I would normally make a poster.

Process/Learning

Another intriguing development process with this one. I had created a few collages out of magazine clippings and had scanned them in to the computer. The one used in this poster caught my eye in particular as a star looking symbol, and so I had decided based off of David Bowie’s Starman that I would create a poster for this tribute event.

What was the most creatively challenging thing was trying to create something that wasn’t centered. It was too easy, too simple. I had then decided to increase the star’s size, having it take up a sizeable portion and push it off the edge, leaving the rest of the text to work around it, and finishing it all in InDesign.

Conclusion

A poster that is for an event that tributes anyone’s work and life should showcase what that kind of person was. Having that star break off the poster shows how David Bowie was a larger-than-life kind of person and using this tribute poster for an event I think is a great way to show it off.
