One Good Arm
Goal
When wanting to create a manga myself, I needed to discover what the work process for making even a single page would be like. Practice with paneling, text layout, texturing, adding effects, and what to show in each panel was the goal of this piece.
Process/Learning
Thanks to again using Clip Studio Paint, the program has been designed for making comics and manga in mind, with a whole selection of pre-made adjustable panel layouts, tones, textures, word bubbles, and even 3d models for posing and the like. With all of these tools at my disposal, creating an outline of what I wanted was easy, and learning about each of these tools was also enlightening.
The most important thing learned came from executing the drawing. Working on the most detailed panels first really helped lighten the load later on, as well as having those reference tools, whether images or using a model. Another thing I learned was how text and sound effects can really contribute to good flow and movement through the piece. guiding the eye where it needs to go.
Conclusion
Creating a whole page illustration is a different beast to that of creating a paneled, but the opportunity to tell stories and create something more than just an image was a very important thing I wanted and needed to learn about. Thus, this work I feel was one of my favorites, even though I’m still learning, growing, and changing as an artist.
