This project started with an old cover for a manga that I had made as a final for my Illustration class in 2020. The goal of this redraw project was to flesh out and revamp the entire thing with new art, and creating a full cover. This was not limited to just one, as I had done two additional covers, totaling three.

This illustration that I made served the purpose of showcasing and practicing the style of manga, made in black and white, using tone shading and hatching to create form. It also helped me practice what the style of the manga would be.

When wanting to create a manga myself, I needed to discover what the work process for making even a single page would be like. Practice with paneling, text layout, texturing, adding effects, and what to show in each panel was the goal of this piece.

Anime also being a huge influence on me when creating my work and even informing my art style was something that I brought into my work. Having further practice with that style as well as creating an original character was the end goal here.

Developing other artistic skills is just what artists are known for. I’m no different. With this piece, I was creating a poster for a fictional David Bowie tribute concert. I wanted to apply my learning from my Poster Design class when making this piece, using what I learned to push how I would normally make a poster.

Not only would I like creating posters, but I wanted to bring in my illustrative skills when making them as well. With Berserk being such a huge inspiration to me in my life, ultimately giving me the dream to make my own manga, and with the passing of the creator in May of 2021, I wanted to create something to honor that. This was one of the illustrations I made.

When creating works of art, some times it is better to do something physical, scan it into the computer, and then edit it digitally. That was the objective when doing this piece, creating an image using a combination of physical elements and digital manipulation.

Being an artist means you need to have an easily recognizable logo that people can look at and immediately know that you’re said artist associated with that logo. The goal here was to update my current logo to something that seemed more unique.

An entire company’s image is a daunting amount of responsibility and pressure on a designers shoulders. However, creating an entire company based around a brand was very impressive and lovely to do.
