Berserk Poster

Goal

Not only would I like creating posters, but I wanted to bring in my illustrative skills when making them as well. With Berserk being such a huge inspiration to me in my life, ultimately giving me the dream to make my own manga, and with the passing of the creator in May of 2021, I wanted to create something to honor that. This was one of the illustrations I made.

Process/Learning

This poster was so challenging. Not only was it difficult to draw these many characters as well as make sure they’re on model and detailed enough, but also to show themes and elements from the story that the source material covers was a hurdle I had to cross.

Since the source material for this was a game released on the Dreamcast, the only reference I could obtain was either promotional art or that done by the original creator, Kentaro Miura, himself. That being said, I learned a couple things from this that made me satisfied with the product, one of which being the fire, blazing strong. The lighting and overall composition was a learning process too, placing all the characters and setting the tone correctly bore fruit in the end.

Conclusion

Creating this poster was not only a way for me to cope with the loss of my idol, but to also create something akin to an anime movie or season poster. Making something that references a video game and bringing it into another realm where it could be seen more broadly is a success to me.
